The Grand River runs through the land of Ontario and enters the Lake Erie. In the middle way of the river near Brantford is a reserve of the largest First Nation in Canada, the Six Nations of the Grand River. As indicated by the name, it is a territory where six Iroquois nations live together.
The Six Nations present annual pow wow in summer since 1979. The Grand River Pow Wow is one of the largest Pow Wows in the country. Hundreds of pow wow dancers and drummers from across Canada and the US come for the championship. It could be the reason that they give the name to the event as Grand River “Champion of Champions” Pow Wow. In addition to variety of dances, many craft and food vendors are also on-site. Generally the event is held in the last weekend of July. Located about 100km west of Toronto make it a good option for a day trip from Toronto and other cities near by.
